Zulip is Live — Join Your Class Channel

What is Zulip?

Zulip is an open-source team messaging platform designed for organized, threaded communication. Unlike conventional chat apps, every conversation in Zulip belongs to a channel (your class) and a topic (a specific thread within that class). This structure keeps discussions searchable, contextual, and noise-free — nothing gets buried in a scrolling feed.

In simple terms: Think of it like WhatsApp, but instead of one chaotic group where everything mixes together, each student gets their own dedicated thread inside the class group. Your updates stay yours. You can see your teacher's feedback exactly where you left off, every time.

Before You Begin

Registration is restricted to GLA University email addresses only (@gla.ac.in). If you try to sign up with a personal email and see this error:

Your email address, palash@sbnri.com, is not in one of the domains that are allowed to register for accounts in this organisation.

— it means you used the wrong email. Go back and register with your college-issued @gla.ac.in address.

How to Join

On the Web

  1. Open your browser and go to the invite link for your class (see below)
  2. Register with your name and a password — no institutional email required
  3. You will be automatically added to your class channel and the announcements channel
  4. Bookmark https://zulip.palashonanton.in for future logins

On Mobile

  1. Download the Zulip app — available on Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store)
  2. Open the app → tap Add an account → select Enter your Zulip server URL
  3. Enter: zulip.palashonanton.in
  4. Register or log in with the credentials you created on the web
  5. Enable push notifications when prompted — this is how you will receive updates from me

Use only the link for your section. Each link places you directly into your class channel.

Note: After registering, check your spam or junk folder if you do not receive the verification email within a few minutes. Mark it as "Not spam" so future messages from Zulip reach your inbox reliably.

What to Expect

Once you are in, find the topic with your name inside your class channel. That is your space — use it to post progress updates on your project, ask questions, and receive feedback. I will be checking in regularly.

Joining is mandatory. Students who do not join within the first week will be followed up with individually.
